The baby boomer generation was known for, well, booming out babies. Millennials, on the other hand, may end up being known for the exact opposite.

Most young Americans, 77 percent, either have or will delay a major life change or purchase such as a house, continuing education, or even starting a family.

In a poll by Generation Opportunity, an organization aimed at engaging young Americans in creating a better tomorrow, young people indicated they have little confidence in making major life purchases because of the current economic factors.

Almost half of young people say they are delaying the purchase of a home. More than a quarter, or 28 percent, are delaying saving for retirements. 23 percent of young people are even delaying starting a family.

The faces of these people who have to kick their own “can down the road” because of the current leadership failing to address the economic situation are those of the next generation.

Not only is it devastating for the people who are delaying these purchases and decisions, it is sad for this country.

How do you expect a real recovery to happen when the next generation is stalled from buying houses, saving for the future and even having kids?

There will be no growth in the future if the people who drive it have no gas left in the tank. The administration must address this fact.

How can they start? Well, 76 percent of youth suggest cutting back federal spending as a way to spur a recovery. Imagine that — my generation understands that to super size the economy, we’ve got to down size government.

A little more than half suggest reducing taxes on businesses so they can hire again. Using the words of President “Kick the Can,” let me be clear — the best way to help small businesses is to cut taxes.

These are not revolutionary ideas, they are proven to work. Now all the Democrats have to do is listen to the people. Wait, I almost forgot, that’s their job.

So…what is the alternative? The last president started two wars without giving any thought to how they were going to be paid for, and in the process, killed thousands of Americans and trashed the economy.

The current president is a fool, only to a slightly lesser degree than the last one.

Is your argument to vote republican? Really???? Are you out of your mind? No one would argue that Bush “downsized the government.” Republicans and Democrats can’t be trusted.

My solution…I have no debt, I raise my own food and sell the excess to friends, I work as little as possible and when I do, money comes to me under the table, I ignore politicians, drink a lot of locally made wines, and relax.

The government is corrupt. Always has been. Always will be. I choose not to participate.

You’re drinking the kool-aid, and when you’re older you’ll be disappointed when you realize you’ve been fighting for crooks.

NASSIM, you live a relatively worry-free life, it seems. I can’t blame you in the slightest. Sometimes I wish I could do just the same – believe me, I’ve tried. However, when there are people running my government that are ruining my family’s future, it’d be cowardly and disgraceful to not be involved.

That’s only my take, however. I also happen to be dept-free. I work on a farm; field prep, scrapping metal, and raising livestock is my line of work. My boss and his son are my two best friends, and I’m proud of my lower class, hard-working lifestyle. However, I’ll never simply sit down and “choose to not participate” simply because it may give me a headache. It’s the right thing to do.

I’d rather one oppose me than be for nothing at all – that’s the lowest of low.

Though I can always agree to disagree. :)
